Giving a Voice to the Silence offers positive angles to the issue that faces those with mental illness. Living with Schizo-Affective Disorder and being able to share my experiences with others, is the best way I know how to pay it forward. Life can be difficult, my goal is to bring a bit of hope to a place where many feel there is none.

The headline read "Woman sits on boyfriend's toilet for 2 years." At first glance many would think it was a girl trying to get back at the guy for something. Look again and you see something more, it was 2 years. Suddenly there are questions that need answers? Two years? How?

Read more into it and it seen that the boyfriend made sure she had food and water, but each time he tried to get her to leave - she refused. This is where the story changes in the fact that it becomes a 'mental issue.'

If she refused to leave the bathroom, there was something going on inside of her that was preventing her from moving. A fear, what some would refer to as Agoraphobia, the fear of leaving a safe place? What is important for this girl is that she receives the help she needs.

A major question is why did the boyfriend wait for 2 years to call for help? So many questions.

It is a shame that through this whole experience she will be seen as "the girl who sat on the toilet for two years,” will anyone pay attention to the reasons, will she just be considered crazy? What she needs to help, understanding and compassion for what is in her life, even though we do not understand it.
