Giving a Voice to the Silence offers positive angles to the issue that faces those with mental illness. Living with Schizo-Affective Disorder and being able to share my experiences with others, is the best way I know how to pay it forward. Life can be difficult, my goal is to bring a bit of hope to a place where many feel there is none.

Meet the Writer

I want to offer a warm welcome to you as you take a look around my blog, I hope you find topics of interest to you, something to stir your mind and share your opinion.

As for who writes the blog, my name is Kelly, I am a Freelance Writer, Researcher and Novelist. While my background is an asset to writing and maintaining this blog, my goal and desire is something more. As a childhood sex abuse survivor and first and experience with Mental Illness, being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 12 years ago, the journey to where I am today has given me that knowledge, experience and determination to help those who are facing the uncertainty of their memories, diagnosis, future and especially fighting the stigma that all to often comes with a diagnosis.

Several years ago I began writing a non-fiction book about my life-long journey. It is now being sent to agents and reviewed by those with professional experience in the field. I will be including excerpts of my book from time to time, as well as blogging about the writing experience at “The Novel Notebook.”

Before I entered the world of blogging, I spent 20 years in the military, traveling the United States and Korea. With this as a background, I have seen and experienced how people reach to news events in their state or country. It is amazing to see the variations and what each will find the most important and newsworthy. I am also the mom to 3 teenage daughters, over the years I have had the chance to talk with parents and see things through the eyes of my girls and their friends. This has been an asset as many news stories today are issues facing teens, school and the turbulent years they are facing.

When I am not working on my blogs, (I maintain 6) I am an amateur photographer, Mental Health Advocate, Novelist, collector of antique books and typewriters. I am also an avid soccer fan, and enjoy hiking and photographing the wonders of nature.

I hope this overview will give you some idea about the person behind the words. If you like what you read, take a moment to bookmark a post and/or subscribe to my RSS feed.

I look forward to talking with you, so feel free to contact me at:, or through instant message at AIM/Yahoo: dlphneyez.
